A Vintage Port from... Australia!
The King 2002 - Peter Lehmann is a fortified wine from the famous Peter Lehmann and the Barossa Valley in Australia. A wine consisting of the varieties Touriga Nacional (54%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (46%) and its production is quite reminiscent of the production method of Vintage Port. After all, Touriga Nacional, which is grown mainly in the Douro region of Portugal, is one of the varieties used to produce Port.
There is no need to say much about Peter Lehmann as he is one of the biggest names in the wine world and an iconic producer for the Barossa Valley. The "Baron" of Barossa as he was called, a legend of the region, was the one who highlighted Australian wines internationally.
The production of this particular wine each year is limited to a few barrels. During fermentation, Brandy is added to stop the alcoholic fermentation and preserve the sugars. The wine is then aged in old oak barrels for about 12 months. After bottling, it remains in the winery's cellar for 6-7 years before being released.
Aromas of black fruits, such as cherry and berry, black currant, sweet spices, chocolate and lavender. Rich mouth with freshness, aromas of cassis, raspberry, plum, spices and black currant. Nice acidity and balanced sweetness. A wine that could age for years but can also be consumed immediately.
